Why was the Arc de Triomphe built ?

The Arc de triomphe, the most monumental of all triumphal arches, was built between 1806 and 1836 to
celebrate Napoleon's victory at the Battle of Austerlitz, over the combined Russian and Austrian armies. It
stands at the center of the Place Charles de Gaulle, at the western end of the Champs- Elysee's in Paris .

France, especially in the those who fought for Engraved on the inside, and at the top of the arch, are all of the
names of the generals and wars fought. At the top of the arch are 30 shields, and each of them bears the name of one of napoleon's successful battles. below the arch is the Grave of the Unknown Soldiers, honoring the many who died during during World War I.
