Can animals sense earthquakes?

There are often reports of animals becoming restless shortly before the start of an earthquake. Although many doubt the existence of this supposed ability, Chinese scientists have proposed the use of snakes to predict earthquakes. This is because they are highly sensitive to the  smallest movement in the ground. The animals are now to be monitored by cameras in a snake farm in Nanning, southern China. If the creatures start to behave oddly, a warning will be issued to earthquake stations in the province of Guangxi. Researches will have to wait for the next major earthquake to find out whether this unconventional approach will actually work or not.
